1. You will do things that most people don’t.

If you’ve been an employee or still is, the normal thing you would do after working in the office is to watch television as soon as you arrived home. For my fellow Filipinos, this would probably mean watching a telenovela or soap opera that they’ve been viewing for months already.

When you are just starting or building your business, watching TV would be the last thing on your mind because you would be thinking of ways to market and improve your business. Instead of watching soap opera, you might be watching videos about online marketing or seminars of your mentors.

If you are friends with these people and you talked about TV-related things, expect to be rejected because you won’t probably have any idea on what they are talking about. And if you say something about what you just did for your business, they won’t understand you either.

2. Your mindset will be different from others.

Let me give you an example. Let’s say you receive a bonus or in some circumstances, you suddenly have additional money in your pocket. An ordinary people would think of this, “What should I buy?” Whereas business-minded people would think about, “Where can I invest the money?”

Expect to be rejected because how you think is different from others. Some people may even find you weird because they thought that you are too serious. Don’t mind them. How you think will directly affect the success of your business.

3. Your habits will be unusual that the common ones.

This is 100% true. In fact, successful people or those who are focused on their business have a set of habits that brought them to where they are now. Examples of habits are morning routines such as praying, meditating and exercise. During the night, it can be the habit of being grateful, listing all accomplishments for the day and planning for the next day.

Whether we admit it or not, not all people do the habits that I mentioned above. As Brian Tracy said, “Successful people are simply those with successful habits.”

I am not saying that you should not be friends with ordinary people. All I’m saying is that, should you decide to have your own business, there will be set of people who won’t understand what you do. You cannot please everyone.

What you should do is to have friends who you can talk about things personally, and have another set of friends who are like-minded and can share business topics with. Because if you don’t, you might be talking to the wrong set of people, and you might not be able to handle all the repeated rejections well.
